The Moving Communities Project was originally funded by St. Luke’s Health Initiatives and is a collaboration between Phoenix Revitalization Corporation and Arizona State University (ASU) College of Nursing and Health Innovation. The goal of Moving Communities is to promote heart health across generations in Central City South (CCS).

On April 12th, Promotores completed twelve weeks of training relating to heart health. Topics included healthy eating, heart disease warning signs and CPR. In addition, each Promotora started a walking club in their neighborhood.

On April 24th, 2012 Promotores and their families came to the American Heart Association Halle Heart Museum for a graduation ceremony and to celebrate their accomplishments.

In December 2012, Arizona State University College of Nursing and Health Innovation received a grant to continue the work initiated in the Moving Communities Project.

On December 13, 2012 through the support of ASU College of Nursing and Health Innovation, service providers serving the community of CCS and resident leaders, formed the Moving Communities Coalition. Their goal is to promote movement in their communities to help improve the overall health of the people in this area.
